How to Join Print this page
Have you ever wondered how you could help YOUR community?
If you answered yes to the above question, you may want to think about volunteering at your local fire company. You may volunteer by becoming an active firefighter who responds to fire calls or be a social member. When most people think about joining a fire department, they automatically think of people running into burning buildings. We need help in other areas including bingo, fundraising activities, etc. If you do not care to respond to fire calls, there is a lot of other opportunities for you to help your local fire department. If you are interested in joining the department, there are a few requirements:
* Must be at least 18 years of age to join
* Must fill out the application and also $10 for a background check. Once it has been turned in, it will be read at the next monthly meeting and then voted upon at the next meeting.
* No training is required to join. If interested in firefighting, the department will pay for the classes that are available for you to take.
* Meetings are held the First Tuesday of Every Month starting at 7:30.
* Practices are held every Tuesday that there is not a meeting. There are additional practices usually held on Thursday. We also offer many classes throughout the year or classes are available at other local department.
If this sounds like something you are interested in, please contact the George G. McMurtry VFD at (724) 567-7171. You may also stop by the station any Tuesday night or anytime the garage doors are up and check out what the department has to offer and pick up an application. You may also email the station at vandfirerescue@comcast.net for more information.
